Running in Boston

After a great run this morning I decided, why not begin blogging about running. Specifically running in Boston. I have been fortunate to be staying in Boston very close to the Charles. Despite not all runs being AMAZING, some have been great. Here are the reasons I love loved running in Boston.

First off, the flat surfaces. I have been spoiled the past two weeks. All around the Charles is FLAT, unlike where I usually run with tons of hills. I'm sure there are hills in Boston, but not along the path I have been running.

Secondly, all the other runners out there. They are all different shapes and sizes, running at all different types of paces. For example, today I ran into (pun not intended) some Kenyans, who lapped me once or twice. I do have to admit the runners aren't all friendly. There are some who wave at you and others who after you wave at them they just ignore you (I'm going to say they didn't see me, I must look like a freak).

Third reason I love running in Boston, is people watching. I am a Sociology major for many reasons, one of them being my love to people watch. I could sit in an airport all day and be entertained just watching and listening to the people all around me. I find it fascinating. While running along the Charles, you run into some very interesting people. Mostly runners, so many tourists (taking way to many photos... MOVE) and the occasional commuters. Throughout my run I create stories about these people. Who are they? What is their relationship to each other? Are they from Boston, or just visiting? It keeps me entertained, especially for those nine mile runs.

Lastly, the views. Nothing beats running right on the Charles and seeing the skyline of Boston. It's pretty magical for me. I used to pass the Charles all the time growing up in Boston and would watch so many runners run along it. I was always envious of them. It is magical to be one of those runners out there. Just as it was so magical rowing on the Charles this past fall.

All that said, I am dreading going back to school to run. Sure some of the views are gorgeous and it's a nice break for being on campus. But, it's hilly and no one is around. I have been spoiled with my runs in Boston, and hope to come back soon again to run here. I secretly wish I could run all my long runs here, but that's pretty impossible once the semester starts again.
