Super Sunday 5 miler Race Recap!

Woke up this morning to snow.. First thought was, SHIT! I knew the snow would slow me down. Headed out the door and hoped on the train (was originally going to jog over, but didn't want to risk it also it was freezing!
Before the race, and before the COLD!

On the train, I met a woman who was going to the race, we struck up a conversation about racing. I found out she was a new runner and her first 5K in December was a fail, and she was hopping today would be successful. Once we got to the event, we went our separate ways. I stood in the cold for a 1/2 hour waiting for the race to start, and then it was a longer wait for the gun to go off. Races, why don't you start on time! Once the race started, I said hi to the friend I made on the train, and we were off.

Waiting, waiting!
Started off too fast as always. First mile felt so LONG and I freaked out when I looked behind me to not see many people, Was I going to come in last! MY BIGGEST FEAR. Second mile flew by as I hurried up. At the third mile we had the option of cutting it short and making it a 5K or continuing. I only had two more miles, and it was FB official I was running 5 miles, no turning back no matter how COLD I was. 4th mile took forever also. Once I hit the 4th mile the clock said 43:53 (I probably started a minute or two after the gun). At this point I knew a PR was possible. I got EXCITED. I raced to the finish. In the last dash Teresa was there! She had her phone out snapping photos! It was so great to have someone cheering me on at the end! When I crossed the finish line my time was 55 something. I knew it was a PR.

After saying goodbye to Teresa, I got in line for some hot chowdah, and waited for my friends to show up. My friends decided not to come, but never texted me. SO there I was in the cold looking like a freak waiting for them. I decided to tweet JK. I have followed her blog for a long time and she is one of my biggest inspirations. I knew she was running the race, she tweeted me right back telling me where she was. Like a dork I found her and introduced myself telling her how big of a fan I am of her. It literally felt like meeting a celebrity. We started up a conversation and I got to meet some of her friends. It was hard to talk since there was a band playing, but it still was AWESOME to meet her. I decided to get going, to get home and warm up.

Right as I was leaving I saw the woman from the train. I tapped her on the shoulder and asked how her race went. She had the biggest smile on her face and gave me a big hug, "It went great, IT WAS AMAZING, how was your race?". I told her it went well and that she should continue running and how great it was to meet her.

Despite the snow and freezing temperature (also friends ditching me) it was an awesome (I need a new word) day for me. My only regret... not knowing the woman from the trains name.

FINAL TIME: 53:53 min (I always seem to have the same number minutes as the same number seconds)
